The INDIA alliance on Monday resolved to intensify its campaign on issues ranging from alleged electoral irregularities to unemployment, inflation, and farmers' concerns, following a meeting of opposition leaders at the Constitution Club of India in the national capital.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said the alliance unanimously agreed to write to the Chief Justice of India over what it described as "vote loot" and alleged manipulation of the electoral process. The letter, he said, would be delivered to the Chief Justice shortly.
The opposition leaders also demanded the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, holding him responsible for what they termed a betrayal of lakhs of students affected by controversies surrounding the NEET and CBSE examinations.
Kharge said the INDIA bloc urged the Union Government to convene an all-party meeting to discuss pressing national concerns, including unemployment, rising prices, agrarian distress, atrocities against vulnerable sections, and other people-centric issues affecting the country.
To strengthen coordination among alliance partners, the leaders agreed to hold regular meetings every two months. Clarifying an earlier statement regarding the next meeting, Kharge said only the frequency had been finalized and that the date and venue of the next gathering would be announced later.
He also announced that parliamentary coordination among opposition parties would continue during the upcoming Monsoon Session, with daily morning strategy meetings to be held in the office of the Leader of the Opposition.
Kharge said all participating parties unanimously endorsed the decisions taken during the meeting and reaffirmed their commitment to jointly raise issues concerning the common people both inside and outside Parliament.
The meeting was attended by several senior leaders of the INDIA alliance, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Omar Abdullah, Supriya Sule, Dipankar Bhattacharya, and representatives of other constituent parties.
