In a shocking incident that has sparked public outrage, a one-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her father, a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel, in Tulashikhar area of Khowai district, today

The accused, identified as Rathindra Debbarma, is a personnel of the TSR’s 10th Battalion, currently posted at Khumulwng TTAADC Headquarters. According to the child’s mother, her husband poisoned their daughter by mixing a toxic substance into a cold drink. The alleged motive was rooted in his resentment over not having a male child.

The grieving mother claimed that Rathindra had been subjecting her to severe physical and mental abuse for not bearing a son. 

The family resides in the Behala Bari area. She further alleged that after the incident, her husband disappeared with the child, and she later received news that her daughter’s body was in the morgue of GB Hospital.

The mother questioned who took the child to the hospital and which doctor examined her, stating she was left in the dark about these details.

Eyewitnesses reported that locals apprehended Rathindra at the GB Hospital premises after recognising him. Enraged residents confronted the accused before police intervened, escorting him to the station under tight security to prevent mob violence.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
