The Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), a constituent body of the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), on Monday staged a sit-in demonstration near Circuit House in Agartala, protesting against the presence of illegal immigrants in the state.

Addressing the gathering, TSF Vice President John Debbarma said similar protests were being held across Tripura to press for the detection and deportation of illegal migrants.

“The issue of illegal immigrants is not new to Tripura or the North East. For over four decades, the region has been grappling with this problem. As per NESO’s call, we are protesting today to demand strict action to detect and deport illegal immigrants. We will also submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister in this regard,” Debbarma said.

He urged the state government to enforce the directives issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs and strengthen coordination with other states.

“Eviction drives are underway in Assam, and those evicted may attempt to move into neighbouring states. We demand that the government take immediate steps to prevent such relocation into Tripura,” he added.
