Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen has been shifted to Aster CMI Hospital in Bengaluru for advanced medical care, following a critical brain surgery performed at ILS Hospital, Agartala.
He was flown out on Monday as per the decision of his family, in line with Sen’s own wishes, to ensure the best possible recovery.
Sen’s health crisis began on August 8, 2025, when he collapsed at Agartala Railway Station while preparing to board a train to his hometown, Dharmanagar. He was rushed to Tripura Medical College and Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital (TMC), Hapania, where doctors diagnosed an internal brain haemorrhage and advised urgent surgery.
He was later transferred to ILS Hospital, Agartala, where neurosurgeons performed the operation. On Sunday, two specialists from AIIMS Delhi evaluated his post-operative condition before the decision was taken to shift him to Bengaluru.
Speaking to reporters, Sen’s daughter expressed hope and determination for his recovery. Displaying a recent photograph of the Speaker, she said, “I will try to bring him back to that state. My father was disappointed with the 2023 assembly election results, and many of his dreams remain unfulfilled. He is the Sharad Pawar of Tripura, and he will return healthy to resume his duties as Speaker.”
Sen’s son also addressed the media, defending the family’s choice of hospitals. “We treated him at TMC and later at ILS. It is entirely our decision where to take our father for treatment. He is critically ill—this is not the time for politics,” he said, urging critics not to question why GB Hospital was not chosen.
The family expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for his support, as well as to all the doctors who worked to stabilize Sen’s condition.
As the Speaker begins the next phase of treatment in Bengaluru, his family remains optimistic that he will soon return to Tripura and continue serving the people with the same dedication and spirit that have marked his political career.
