The Tripura government has unveiled a ?32,423 crore budget for the financial year 2025-26, maintaining its stance of not introducing any new taxes.
Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy presented the budget in the state assembly on Friday, highlighting an increased focus on capital expenditure and sectoral growth.
With a projected capital expenditure of ?7,903 crore—marking a 19.14% rise from the previous year—the government aims to drive economic development while ensuring financial stability. The state’s own tax revenue is estimated at ?4,010 crore, while non-tax revenue stands at ?504 crore.
The Finance Minister emphasized that the budget size has grown by ?4,618.77 crore compared to last year’s budget estimate, reflecting a commitment to expanding development initiatives. The revised estimates for 2024-25 had increased from ?27,804.67 crore to ?30,296.50 crore, and the current budget carries a deficit of ?429.56 crore.
A major highlight of this year’s budget is the introduction of 13 new schemes, focusing on inclusive development, with special attention to women's empowerment. Additionally, sectoral allocations have seen notable increases.
He further stated that the budget has allocated ?1,885.42 crore for the agriculture and allied sector, reflecting an increase of 9.49%; ?6,166.19 crore for the education sector, with an increase of 11.94%; and ?1,948.69 crore for the health sector, marking a rise of 12.89%.
With these allocations, the state government aims to strengthen public services, boost infrastructure, and support key economic sectors, ensuring a balanced approach to growth and welfare.
