In a major crackdown on the illegal drug trade, Tripura Police seized cannabis worth approximately Rs 1 crore and arrested one individual during two separate operations in the Sepahijala district during the early hours of Tuesday.
Sonamura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das informed that acting on specific intelligence inputs, police first apprehended a man identified as Indra Kumar Debbarma and recovered cannabis valued at around Rs 28 lakh.
In a subsequent operation, security personnel conducted a raid in the dense forest region of Dhanirampur under Sepahijala district. During the search, officers discovered and seized 386 kilograms of dry cannabis concealed in nine plastic drums. The consignment was found abandoned and was seized following due legal procedures.
Preliminary estimates place the value of the seized ganja at approximately Rs 77.20 lakh.
Police suspect the consignment was hidden in the remote forest area for the purpose of illegal trafficking.
A case has been registered, and a thorough investigation is underway to trace the individuals and network involved in the smuggling operation.
