On the eve of Independence Day, Tripura Police, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a vehicle at Vanghmun Naka under Vanghmun PS, thwarting a planned attack by the newly formed miscreant group TUNF.

Two suspects – Dhananjay Reang (39) of Hailakandi, Assam, and Soida Nanda Reang (34) of Dham Chera – were apprehended. A search recovered electric detonators, Neogel explosive, TUNF letterhead, threatening notes, three mobile phones, a diary containing phone numbers, along with other items.

Preliminary enquiry suggests a conspiracy to destabilise the state, with intent to kill police personnel, damage police vehicles, and rob arms and ammunition. Both accused have been arrested and will be produced before the court.

This swift operation has averted a potential major security incident. Further investigation is underway to identify accomplices and dismantle the wider network.
