The state BJP on Wednesday claimed that the people of Tripura have outrightly rejected the nationwide bandh called by ten central trade unions, asserting that normal life remained unaffected across the state.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP state headquarters, party state secretary Tapas Majumdar said the strike had no impact in Tripura, and the people have “refused to accept the outdated politics” of the Left-backed unions.

“Schools, colleges, banks, government and private offices — all remained fully functional today. Public transport operated normally, and markets remained open. This proves that the people have thwarted the bandh,” Majumdar told reporters.

He claimed that while CITU leaders were projecting a “huge response” to the strike, the reality on the ground was the exact opposite. “The people of Tripura no longer support their ideology or their disruptive methods,” he added.

According to Majumdar, barring a few isolated attempts to create disturbances, the day passed off peacefully without any reports of violence or disruption.

Taking a swipe at the trade unions, he said, “Since the BJP came to power in Tripura, several development initiatives have been undertaken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But to stall the pace of development, the Left-backed unions are resorting to strikes and protests — a failed tactic the public no longer supports.”

The nationwide strike was called by ten central trade unions protesting against various policies of the Central government. However, the BJP claims Tripura stood apart by rejecting the call entirely.
