The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) has raised serious concerns about the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Tripura, citing both procedural opacity and alleged attacks on party members.

In a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer of Tripura, CPI(M) leaders questioned the conduct of the SIR exercise. They noted that while preliminary scrutiny of voter rolls has begun, neither political parties nor the public have been adequately informed about the objectives or procedures. 

While acknowledging that detecting fake voters is a legitimate goal, the party stressed that the process must be transparent and involve all political stakeholders.

The CPI(M) also highlighted several incidents of violence. According to the letter, on September 16, three party leaders were allegedly attacked by BJP supporters at the ERO office in Santirbazar and again at the District Hospital. An FIR was reportedly filed by one of the victims, Balaram Reang, but the party claims no action has been taken.

The letter further cited the demolition of the CPI(M) Pratapgarh Local Committee office on September 19, allegedly carried out by ruling party supporters using a bulldozer. Additionally, Shyamal Debbarma, CPI(M) candidate from the 12-Takarjala constituency, was reportedly attacked at his home on September 22 by Tipra Motha members after attending a meeting convened by the local ERO.

CPI(M) also noted the continued inability to open several local offices, including four Sub-Divisional Committee offices in Kamalpur, Jirania, Mohanpur, and Santirbazar, due to threats from ruling party supporters since 2018.

In response, the party urged the CEO to hold a state-level all-party meeting to explain the objectives and methods of the SIR exercise and seek input from all political parties. They also requested suspension of the ongoing Sub-Division level SIR exercise until consultations are completed and called on the CEO to intervene in the reported attacks to safeguard democratic rights.
