Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Biswa Bandhu Sen, passed away late Thursday night while receiving treatment at Aster CMI Hospital in Bengaluru. He was 72.

Sen had been in critical condition since August after suffering a massive brain haemorrhage. 

He was first admitted to a hospital in Agartala, where he underwent emergency surgery, and was later airlifted to Bengaluru for specialized treatment. 

Despite months of medical care, he could not recover. His mortal remains are expected to be brought back to Tripura on Saturday.

TripuraChief Minister Dr Manik Saha confirmed the news through a social media post, expressing profound sorrow over Sen’s passing and offering condolences to his family.

A veteran political leader, Biswa Bandhu Sen was serving as the Speaker of the 13th Tripura Legislative Assembly at the time of his death. He represented the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency in North Tripura district and was elected as an MLA four times.
