Tripura marks third successful kidney transplant: CM

On the eve of National Doctors’ Day, Tripura Chief Minister and Health Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced the successful completion of the state’s third kidney transplant, marking another milestone in the state's advancing healthcare sector.

The transplant was carried out by a team of doctors at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant Hospital, in collaboration with experts from Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Manipur.

Expressing his pride, Dr. Saha said, “As we prepare to celebrate Doctors’ Day tomorrow, I’m delighted to share that our doctors have successfully performed the state’s third kidney transplant. Both the donor and recipient are currently stable.”

Dr. Saha hailed the accomplishment as a testament to the medical team's skill and relentless commitment, adding that it reflects the growing capabilities of Tripura’s healthcare system.

Tripura entered the field of organ transplantation less than a year ago, performing its first kidney transplant at AGMC & GBP Hospital in July 2024. In that landmark surgery, a 20-year-old youth received a kidney from his mother.
