Tripura LoP criticizes state budget 2025-26, terms it as 'directionless'

The Tripura government on Friday presented the budget for the 2025-26 financial year, emphasizing infrastructure development, employment generation, and economic growth.

However, the Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, strongly criticized the budget, calling it "anti-people" and "directionless."

During the assembly session, the Finance Minister outlined the government's fiscal plans, highlighting significant allocations for rural development, entrepreneurship, and law enforcement.

The minister emphasized that the budget reflects the state’s vision for holistic growth and stability.

Reacting to the budget, Chaudhury alleged that despite an elaborate presentation, the financial blueprint lacked concrete measures to address pressing issues such as unemployment, rural distress, and corruption.

"The budget fails to offer any real solutions to the problems faced by the common people. Unemployment among the youth, hardships faced by small traders, and worsening law and order remain unaddressed," he stated.

He further argued that while the government has announced new schemes, they allegedly favor certain groups rather than benefiting the state's marginalized communities.

"This budget does not serve the interests of the people; instead, it continues to benefit those who have exploited Tripura’s resources over the past seven years," he claimed.
