A group of journalists, including editors and reporters, led by veteran journalist Subal Kumar Dey, met Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to express concern over an alleged remark made by Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Paul against the media in the state.
Paul had reportedly posted a video on his Facebook account in which he allegedly made derogatory comments about the media.
Veteran journalist Subal Kumar Dey said this is an unprecedented situation in Tripura.
“This is for the very first time we have seen an MLA, who is also the Deputy Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, verbally attack the media in such a manner. This has never happened before. We met the Chief Minister and apprised him of the matter,” Dey said.
Dey, who is also the Editor of Syandan Patrika, a leading Bengali newspaper in Tripura, further informed that Dr. Saha has assured the journalists that he will look into the issue.
“We are waiting for the Chief Minister's action. If necessary, we will also raise this issue before the Central government,” he added.
The group consisted Agartala Press Club President Pranab Sarkar, Editor Shanit Debroy, Senior journalist Dr. Biswendu Bhattacharya and others.
