The Government of India has appointed Dr. Shailesh, IAS (Tripura cadre, 2013 batch), as Deputy Secretary in the National Health Authority (NHA), New Delhi under the Department of Health & Family Welfare. He will serve under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of four years.

An alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, Dr. Shailesh holds an MBBS with First Class distinction in all medical subjects and surgery. 

His rare combination of clinical expertise and administrative experience has defined his career in public service.

Since joining the IAS, he has held key positions including SDO/SDM, West Tripura; Deputy Secretary, Finance Department, Tripura; Mission Director & Joint Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department; Municipal Commissioner; Commissioner, State Urban Development Authority; Director, Urban Development; and District Magistrate of both West and South Tripura.

In the health sector, he led major public health initiatives, strengthened healthcare delivery systems, and worked on disease control programs. As Municipal Commissioner, he focused on urban infrastructure, sanitation, and citizen-friendly governance.

His new role at the NHA – which implements flagship schemes like Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) – will leverage his medical and governance background to expand healthcare coverage, improve quality, and enhance financial protection for vulnerable citizens.
