The Tripura Human Rights Commission has directed prison authorities to submit a comprehensive report following allegations related to delays in providing medical care to an inmate.

The directive was issued by Justice Arindam Lodh, Chairperson of the Commission, after a petition was filed by Pranab Sarkar, a resident of Narsingarh in West Tripura district. The complaint concerns his father, Surendra Sarkar (58), who is currently lodged at Bishalgarh Kendriya Sansudhanagar in connection with a 2019 case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to the petition, Surendra Sarkar had been referred by AGMC & GBP Hospital to SSKM Hospital on October 21, 2024, for surgery related to a bilateral ACL tear. However, it is alleged that the necessary arrangements for his treatment were not made despite the medical recommendation.

The complaint further points to possible administrative lapses within the Prisons Department. A copy of the medical referral was submitted along with the petition, though the Commission observed discrepancies in the case number mentioned.

Before formally proceeding with the matter, the Commission has sought a factual and detailed report from the Inspector General of Prisons, Government of Tripura, after conducting an appropriate inquiry into the claims.

The authority has been instructed to file the report within 15 days. The case is scheduled for further hearing on March 9, 2026.
