Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag on Tuesday confirmed that the individuals involved in a security breach incident at the MLA Hostel in Agartala have been identified, hours after Tipra Motha legislator Philip Kumar Reang alleged a serious lapse in security.

According to Reang, the incident occurred around 10 pm on Monday when he was outside his hostel room, speaking to his family over the phone. 

He alleged that unidentified miscreants approached him and hurled threats.

Taking note of the complaint, a high-level police team led by DGP Anurag, along with IG (Law and Order) Manchak Ipper and Additional SP (Urban) Dhruv Nath, visited the hostel premises on Tuesday morning to assess the situation.

Briefing the media, DGP Anurag said, “Last night, an issue arose involving MLA Philip Kumar Reang, during which an argument broke out with some youths. We have identified the three individuals involved, who had entered the hostel premises as guests of someone. We are examining what legal action can be taken against them. Security personnel are already deployed here, and the investigation is underway. We are also reviewing measures to further strengthen overall security.”

The police have assured that additional steps will be taken to ensure the safety of public representatives residing in the MLA Hostel.
