Following directions from Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to strengthen academic oversight and improve the quality of primary education, the School Education Department has intensified surprise inspections across government schools in the state.

A senior inspection team led by School Education Secretary Dr. Milind Dharmrao Ramteke, along with Director of Elementary Education Harshita Biswas, Deputy Director Rudradeep Nath, and Officers on Special Duty (OSDs), has been carrying out unannounced visits to schools in multiple districts.

According to the department, more than 60 government schools have been inspected over the past few days. The inspections focused on classroom teaching standards, student learning outcomes, classroom management, school infrastructure, and the implementation of various government education initiatives.

Officials paid particular attention to the execution of the Nipun Tripura Mission, the PM Poshan scheme, pre-primary education, activity-based learning, student engagement, and the effective use of teaching-learning materials.

The inspections uncovered several instances of negligence and administrative lapses, prompting the department to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the responsible personnel. Show-cause notices have been issued to several teachers, while the salaries of some staff members have been temporarily withheld pending further inquiry.

Action has also been taken against one Block Resource Person (BRP) and one Cluster Resource Person (CRP) for alleged dereliction of duty, including the temporary suspension of their salaries. Additionally, proceedings have been initiated against headmasters and teachers who failed to cooperate with inspection teams or ensure proper coordination during the visits. Heads of schools where shortcomings were identified in the management of primary sections have also been served show-cause notices.

While taking action against erring officials, the department also acknowledged schools that demonstrated strong academic performance, effective classroom practices, and committed efforts to enhance learning outcomes. Officials said recognising exemplary work is vital to motivate educators, while strict enforcement of accountability remains equally important to improve educational standards.

The intensified inspection campaign follows directives issued by the Chief Minister during a recent review meeting, where regular school inspections and academic monitoring were identified as key priorities. The School Education Department stated that the initiative is aimed at ensuring age-appropriate learning for every child, strengthening accountability within schools, and providing continuous academic support through systematic monitoring.
