Tripura CPIM MLA from Bamutia Assembly Constituency Nayan Sarkar has filed a police complaint alleging that several people obstructed development work under his MLA Local Area Development Fund in his constituency.

The FIR was registered today at Airport police station, naming four individuals for allegedly stopping the installation of a streetlight.

According to MLA Sarkar, two streetlights were approved under a development project in the Nabagram Panchayat area.

According to him on 20 February, workers appointed by the contractor began installation. The first streetlight was successfully erected in a densely populated village near the Chintaharan Debnath Anganwadi centre with help from local residents.

However, Sarkar’s complaint says, the work to install the second streetlight was interrupted when a group of men arrived at the site and forcefully stopped the work. The FIR names Bikash Das, Utpal Das, Karan Bhattacharya and Tapas Chowdhury, all residents of Uttar Ramnagar, accusing them of not only halting the work but also pressuring the contractor to remove the already installed streetlight and threatening that no future development work from the MLA’s fund would be permitted in the area.

The MLA said the area remains dark at night, making streetlighting essential for public safety and convenience. He has lodged the FIR on charges including obstructing official government work, attempting to damage or remove public property, and criminal intimidation.
