Tripura Congress MLA Birajit Sinha Roy has written to the Airport Director of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, highlighting illegal encroachment and unauthorized construction on Airports Authority land at Kailashahar in Unakoti district, and called for urgent intervention.
Kailashahar Airport is currently non-operational, but the Tripura government has initiated steps to revive it. In his letter, MLA Sinha Roy pointed out that several parts of the airport land have been illegally occupied and that unauthorized roads have been constructed.
He specifically alleged that Advocate Sanjib Debroy, Government Public Prosecutor, is actively filling portions of the land and constructing structures without approval from the concerned authority. “These activities are taking place without proper authorization and have sparked growing dissatisfaction among the residents of Kailashahar. If left unchecked, the situation could escalate further,” the MLA noted.
Although the matter has been reported to the local police, Sinha Roy emphasized that the Airports Authority of India holds jurisdiction over the land and has the authority to take action.
He further expressed concern over social activities being conducted on the premises, which add to the urgency of the situation. The letter urged the airport authorities to take immediate steps to halt all encroachments and unauthorized constructions and to restore proper control over the property.
