Tripura Congress MLA demands High Court-supervised probe into DGP's death

Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman has sought a High Court-monitored investigation into the death of the state's Director General of Police (DGP), saying the circumstances surrounding the incident call for a fair, transparent, and impartial inquiry.

Expressing grief over the senior police officer's demise, Roy Barman described him as "one of the most honest police officers Tripura has ever seen" and said the news of his death came as a shock.

The Congress legislator urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the facts behind the incident. He also claimed that a senior police officer had informed him that the DGP had been experiencing mental stress before his death. According to Roy Barman, investigators should verify this claim and examine the reasons behind any such distress, as it could be relevant to the case.

Referring to the circumstances of the incident, Roy Barman pointed out that the DGP was found dead in his office while still in uniform. He said these factors raise important questions that require an independent and credible investigation.

To ensure transparency and maintain public trust, the MLA called for the probe to be carried out under the supervision of a High Court judge.

"A detailed and impartial investigation is necessary to uncover the truth and ensure justice," Roy Barman said.

The authorities have not yet disclosed the findings of the ongoing investigation into the DGP's death.
