Former Minister and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Thursday urged Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha to ensure that this year’s Durga Puja celebrations are free from flex banners featuring political leaders and to expedite the completion of ongoing road and drainage works in Agartala.
Raising the issue on the first day of the Tripura Legislative Assembly session, Roy Barman expressed concern over the poor condition of the city ahead of the festive season.
“The drains and roads are still incomplete, and with Durga Puja approaching, these works must be finished to ensure a smooth celebration. I also appeal to the government to implement stricter rules on vehicle passes,” Roy Barman said.
He further criticized the widespread use of flex banners and festoons carrying photographs and advertisements of political leaders, terming them “visual pollution” and harmful to the environment.
“Flex is a non-biodegradable substance. Let us all pledge not to allow such practices. People already know us; we can use social media to extend greetings instead. We must also take responsibility for problems like flooding and other issues. Therefore, I appeal to refrain from using flexes during this Puja,” the MLA added.
