Tripura BJP General Secretary Bipin Debbarma on Sunday said Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha is treating the murder of Angel Chakma in Uttarakhand with utmost seriousness and is actively pursuing the case through administrative channels as well as close coordination with the Uttarakhand government.

Describing the incident as deeply distressing, Debbarma said it has shaken the people of Tripura.
“The tragic death of Angel Chakma on December 9 has left everyone heartbroken. I pray for peace to the departed soul and strength to the grieving family,” he said.

Angel, a student pursuing higher studies in Uttarakhand, was allegedly attacked under disturbing circumstances. Debbarma said the Chief Minister has personally spoken with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami regarding the incident and sought strict action against those responsible.

“The Tripura Chief Minister has assured that no one involved will be spared. The Uttarakhand Chief Minister has also acknowledged the matter publicly on X and assured firm action,” Debbarma added.

He further said it was unfair to target the government over the incident and pointed out that significant development work is ongoing in the region.

“Students from Tripura and across the North East study in Uttarakhand. Such unfortunate incidents should never happen. I want to reassure everyone that the Tripura government is fully committed to ensuring justice, and the Uttarakhand government has also extended its full cooperation,” he said.

Angel Chakma, an MBA student, died following an alleged racial attack in Dehradun. He and his brother Michael were reportedly assaulted by a group of men near a liquor shop on December 9, after the assailants allegedly made racial remarks. Angel later succumbed to his injuries on Friday.
