Ram Pada Jamatia, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Bagma, is expected to be appointed as the next Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, according to sources within the state BJP unit.

The Speaker’s position has remained vacant following the passing of the former Speaker, Bishwabandhu Sen. The election for the post is likely to take place during the Assembly’s budget session, which begins on March 13. Officials have confirmed that the Speaker will be chosen through a formal vote in the House.

Party insiders suggested that Jamatia may be the only candidate, which would ensure a smooth election and his swift assumption of office as the presiding officer of the Assembly.

There had been some speculation that current Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Paul might be considered for the role. However, the decision now appears to favor Jamatia.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who recently returned from an urgent visit to Delhi, chaired a meeting of the party’s core committee, where the matter of the Speaker’s election was reportedly discussed.
