Tripura Pradesh BJP Secretary Devid Debbarma on Tuesday called on Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, seeking the establishment of a girls’ hostel at the Naireng Kami Ashram English Medium High School located at Hatai Kotor in West Tripura district.

In a letter submitted to the Minister, Debbarma highlighted that the school—situated at Khamting Bari near the Bankumari Temple—is the only English medium high school in the locality and caters to students from multiple remote tribal villages.

“While the school currently has a boys’ hostel, there is no provision for a girls’ hostel. This lack of accommodation has become a significant barrier for tribal girls aspiring to receive education in English medium. Many are forced to travel long distances daily, or worse, abandon their studies due to the inconvenience and safety concerns,” the letter stated.

He emphasized that the absence of a girls’ hostel not only jeopardizes the safety of these students but also affects their academic growth and future opportunities.

Debbarma earnestly urged the Tribal Welfare Minister to treat the matter with utmost urgency and sanction the construction of a girls’ hostel either within or near the school premises. “Providing a secure and supportive environment will go a long way in empowering our tribal daughters through education,” he added.
