Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu today described the Legislative Assembly as the “temple of democracy,” stating that the ideals, dedication, and spirit of service demonstrated by its members make it truly sacred.
Addressing the 63rd Foundation Day celebrations of the Tripura Legislative Assembly held in the Assembly lobby this morning, the Governor said that elected representatives are not in the House for personal gain, but to serve the people who have placed their trust in them.
“The representatives of the people have come to the Legislative Assembly not for themselves but to serve those who have elected them by trusting and believing in them,” Governor Nallu remarked.
He further noted that the state government is actively working to improve the economic and social conditions of citizens by strengthening education and healthcare services. Highlighting the administration’s achievements, he said significant progress has been made in maintaining law and order, ensuring peace, developing infrastructure, and advancing the agricultural sector. He particularly emphasized notable improvements in the development of tribal communities.
Expressing optimism about the future, the Governor said he hoped both ruling and opposition members would continue working together for the development of Tripura. He also reflected on the state’s historical journey—from its accession to the Union of India to attaining full statehood and establishing a fully functional Legislative Assembly.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath delivered the inaugural address, presenting a detailed account of Tripura’s historical evolution and legislative development. He highlighted the state’s rich heritage and expressed confidence that current legislators would continue working in the interest of public welfare.
Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, in his address, stated that India’s democratic framework remains one of the strongest in the world. He also paid tribute to the contributions of former members of the Tripura Legislative Assembly and their role in shaping the state’s democratic journey.
