Tripura asks BJP leaders to gear up for urban polls, warns against complacency

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday asked BJP leaders and workers to step up organisational preparations for the upcoming urban local body elections and maintain a proactive approach at the grassroots level.

Dr. Saha made the remarks after chairing a meeting of the BJP’s Agartala unit in the presence of state BJP president Abhishek Debroy, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Chief Minister said the discussions primarily focused on preparations for the upcoming elections to the Municipal Corporation, municipalities and Nagar Panchayats, with emphasis on strengthening coordination among party workers.

He said the organisational committees for the elections had not yet been finalised and would be announced by the state party president once the process was completed.

“Today’s discussion was mainly on this issue and on how we will prepare ourselves for the upcoming elections, particularly by bringing the workers together,” Dr. Saha said.

Recalling the BJP’s performance in the previous urban local body elections, the Chief Minister said the party had secured victories across the municipalities, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation and Nagar Panchayats.

With the upcoming polls being another important organisational challenge, Dr. Saha urged party workers to remain active and focused.

“This time, it is 2021. To make it meaningful, I told everyone that the issue should be taken seriously. There should be no lethargy anywhere. Everyone should remain vibrant,” he said.

The Chief Minister’s remarks came as the BJP began intensifying its organisational activities ahead of the urban local body elections.
