Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday paid rich tribute to legendary singer and composer Sachin Dev Burman on his birth anniversary, recalling his enduring contribution to Indian music and his deep-rooted connection with Tripura.
Speaking at a commemorative programme, Dr. Saha said Sachin Dev Burman’s journey from a royal family in Tripura to becoming one of India’s most celebrated musicians was an inspiring story of talent, determination and hard work.
“He belonged to the royal family, where he had access to everything, but he left it all behind and created his own identity,” the Chief Minister said.
Dr. Saha noted that Burman was born in Comilla, now in Bangladesh, and said the rich folk traditions, melodies and musical heritage of the region played an important role in shaping his artistic sensibilities. He later moved to Kolkata and then Mumbai, where he established himself as a distinguished singer and composer.
The Chief Minister said Burman’s unique ability to blend classical traditions, including Dhrupad and Hindustani classical music, with folk melodies gave his compositions a distinctive character. His music, he added, continues to touch audiences in India and abroad.
Dr. Saha also recalled the government’s role in preserving the house associated with the legendary musician and said his legacy remains a matter of pride for Tripura.
Describing Burman as a self-made personality, the Chief Minister urged the younger generation to learn from his life and musical journey.
“Music is something that remains in everyone’s heart,” Dr. Saha said, adding that Burman’s life would continue to inspire young people to pursue their dreams with dedication, confidence and perseverance.
