The Tripura government is set to hold a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review the availability of essential commodities, including fuel, following the disruption of train services caused by a landslide in Assam.
The railway track between New Haflong and Jatinga Lampur was severely damaged on Monday evening after boulders and landmass fell onto the tracks. The landslide was reportedly triggered by ongoing road repair work undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
A senior Tripura government official, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed to that state authorities have been in touch with the North East Frontier Railway (NFR) regarding the disruption.
“We received the information and contacted the Area Manager of Badarpur NFR last night. Restoration work is underway on a war footing,” the official said.
He added that a high-level review meeting will be held later today to assess the current situation and ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities, especially fuel.
Meanwhile, the NFR has cancelled the Agartala-Bengaluru Express due to continuous debris—including boulders and mud—falling near Jatinga Lampur station overnight.
The Sealdah-bound Kanchanjungha Express, which originates from Sabroom in South Tripura, will also remain cancelled between Sabroom and Lumding.
On Monday, the NFR had already cancelled three trains originating from Agartala in view of the same issue.
