In a significant step to intensify the statewide movement to safeguard the rights of MGNREGA workers, the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has constituted a State-Level Coordination Committee for the “MGNREGA Bachao Sangram.”
The decision was taken at a preparatory meeting held at Pradesh Congress Bhawan on January 8, 2026, under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble TPCC President Shri Asish Kumar Saha.
The newly formed committee has been entrusted with the crucial responsibility of planning, executing, and closely monitoring every phase of the campaign across Tripura, ensuring a coordinated and effective mass movement. The initiative aims to mobilize the organization at all levels and to highlight the issues faced by MGNREGA workers while pressing for the protection of their entitlements and dignity.
The State-Level Coordination Committee brings together senior leaders, elected representatives, former office-bearers, legal professionals, and experienced organizers of the Congress party. It is headed by Shri Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and AICC In-Charge for Tripura, alongside TPCC President Shri Asish Kumar Saha. The committee also includes prominent leaders such as Shri Birajit Sinha, MLA and CLP leader; Shri Sudip Roy Barman, MLA and CWC Special Invitee Member; Shri Gopal Chandra Roy and Shri Diba Chandra Hrangkhawl, both former TPCC Presidents; Shri Pijush Kanti Biswas, former Acting PCC President; and former MLAs Shri Ashok Debbarma and Shri Ashok Kumar Baidya, among many others.
A wide cross-section of party leaders, advocates, social activists, and grassroots organizers have been included to ensure broad-based participation and strong coordination throughout the state. Senior advocates, youth and tribal representatives, and leaders from diverse backgrounds have been entrusted with responsibilities to strengthen the movement at every level.
Additionally, Shri Christopher Tilak, Secretary of the All India Congress Committee and In-Charge of Tripura, will serve as an Ex-Officio Member of the committee, along with all Chiefs of Congress Frontals, further reinforcing organizational synergy.
Addressing the meeting, TPCC President Asish Kumar Saha emphasized that the “MGNREGA Bachao Sangram” would be a decisive and people-centric movement aimed at exposing the failures of the present dispensation and standing firmly with rural workers. He called upon all members of the coordination committee to work with dedication, unity, and discipline to make the campaign a success across Tripura.
The formation of this State-Level Coordination Committee marks the formal launch of an organized, structured, and sustained struggle by the Congress party to defend MGNREGA and uphold the rights and livelihoods of lakhs of rural families in the state.
