Tipra Motha Party MLA Ranjit Debbarma has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking immediate implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Tripura to identify and deport illegal migrants.

In his letter, Debbarma cited the Ministry of Home Affairs’ (MHA) directives issued on May 19, 2025, for detecting, deporting, and pushing back illegal migrants within 30 days, followed by a subsequent order on May 28 to state authorities and the Bureau of Immigration.

The legislator alleged that despite repeated appeals to senior state officials, the government has not established detention camps or formed fully functional Special Task Forces (STFs) in all districts. He claimed the existing STF lacks central forces, civil administration officers, clear guidelines, and a dedicated headquarters, rendering it ineffective.

Calling the state’s measures “an eyewash,” Debbarma alleged that large-scale infiltration continues, with some migrants involved in “anti-India activities.” He warned that Tripura’s and India’s “national security and sovereignty” are under threat, urging the Centre to implement NRC in the state on the lines of Assam, with direct involvement of central police and administrative agencies.
