Tipra Motha Party legislator Philip Kumar Reang has raised concerns over a security lapse at the MLA Hostel after he was allegedly threatened by unidentified individuals late Monday night.
The incident occurred around 10 pm while Reang was speaking with his family on the phone outside his room.
“Suddenly, a group of unknown persons, seemingly under the influence of alcohol, approached me and threatened me with dire consequences. They even hurled abusive language at me,” the MLA recounted.
Reang said four individuals were involved in the confrontation. He immediately alerted the Superintendent of Police, West District, after which security forces and police personnel reached the hostel.
Calling the episode a “serious security threat,” Reang said, “Nearly 45 MLAs live here. If it happened to me today, it could happen to anyone tomorrow. The Chief Minister must take urgent steps to address this glaring lapse in security.”
Police have registered the complaint and initiated an investigation into the matter.
