In a heart-wrenching incident, three minors drowned this morning while bathing in a pond located on the premises of the Arundhatinagar Agricultural Research Centre in the Badharghat area of Agartala.

According to Tripura Police, the tragedy unfolded when one of the boys began to drown. 

In a bid to save him, the other two jumped in, but all three were ultimately overpowered by the deep water. Local residents managed to pull one of the boys out and rushed him to a nearby hospital. 

Unfortunately, the other two were later retrieved by police and fire brigade personnel, but doctors at GB Pant Hospital declared all three brought dead.

The victims have been identified as Bobby Shukla Das (17), Shubham Dev (17), and Shubhjit De (15).

The tragic sight of inconsolable parents waiting by the pondside cast a shadow of sorrow over the entire locality. Local MLA Meena Rani Sarkar rushed to the spot and expressed her deep condolences to the bereaved families.

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha also expressed grief over the incident. In a post on social media, he wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of three young boys due to drowning. I pray to God to grant strength to the bereaved families during this difficult time. The administration has been directed to take all necessary measures.”
