Tensions rose in Pecharthal on Monday as students of Nabinchhara Class XII School took to the streets demanding immediate action over the shortage of teachers at their institution.

The students blocked National Highway 8 along the Assam-Agartala route from the morning, holding placards and protesting against what they described as a prolonged shortage of teaching staff. They alleged that the lack of teachers has disrupted regular classes and adversely affected their studies.

The protest caused significant disruption to traffic on the busy highway, with vehicles stranded on both sides of the road for several hours. Commuters and drivers faced considerable inconvenience as congestion stretched across the Nabinchhara area.

Police from Pecharthal Police Station reached the spot after receiving information about the blockade. Officials from the Unakoti District Education Department and the local administration also arrived and engaged with the protesting students.

During discussions, the students highlighted their concerns and demanded that sufficient teachers be appointed without further delay. Administrative and education officials assured them that the matter would be looked into and appropriate steps would be taken.

Following the assurances, the students called off the blockade at around 12:30 pm, allowing traffic to resume gradually.

The protesters, however, warned that they would intensify their agitation if their demand for adequate teaching staff is not addressed soon.

The development has drawn attention to the staffing situation at the school, with students and parents now awaiting concrete action from the education authorities.
