The Southwest Monsoon has officially withdrawn from the entire state of Tripura on October 15, marking the end of the 2026 monsoon season, the Meteorological Centre in Agartala announced on Thursday.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state received 1,160.1 mm of rainfall during the monsoon season, significantly below the normal seasonal average of 1,391.1 mm. The shortfall translates into a rainfall deficit of 17 per cent, indicating below-normal precipitation across the state during the season.
The weather department reported that the highest daily rainfall recorded in Tripura during this year's monsoon was 229.2 mm in West Tripura.
The withdrawal of the monsoon was accompanied by dry weather conditions across the state during the preceding 24 hours, signalling a transition towards the post-monsoon period.
This year's withdrawal date was almost identical to that of 2025, when the Southwest Monsoon retreated from the entire state on October 14, according to the Meteorological Centre.
With the seasonal rains coming to an end, Tripura is likely to witness predominantly dry weather in the coming days. However, residents are advised to remain updated on the latest weather bulletins and forecasts issued by the IMD.
The seasonal rainfall deficit highlights the variation in precipitation during this year's monsoon, with the state recording considerably less rainfall than its long-term seasonal average.
