A sexual assault case has been registered against filmmaker Chidambaram, best known for directing the Malayalam hit Manjummel Boys, following a complaint lodged by a young woman in Kochi.
According to officials from the Ernakulam South Police, the case was filed based on the survivor’s statement, and an investigation is currently in its preliminary stages.
The First Information Report (FIR) includes charges related to assault with intent to outrage a woman’s modesty and allegations of inappropriate physical contact.
The complaint states that the alleged incident took place in 2022 at the woman’s flat in Elamkulam. The director is accused of trespassing and engaging in behaviour described as having sexual intent.
Police confirmed that the case was registered after formally recording the complainant’s statement. Authorities have emphasised that no conclusions have been drawn at this stage and that further legal steps will depend on a comprehensive review of evidence and circumstances. Officials reiterated that the investigation will proceed in accordance with due process.
The development has attracted significant public attention due to the director’s recent professional success. Manjummel Boys was one of the biggest Malayalam box office successes in recent years, earning widespread acclaim and commercial recognition.
Legal observers note that the charges invoked are serious in nature and carry substantial legal consequences if proven. However, police sources have stressed that the matter remains under investigation and that procedural fairness will be maintained for all parties involved.
As of now, there has been no public statement from Chidambaram regarding the allegations.
The case has prompted discussions within the film industry about accountability and workplace conduct, with authorities assuring that the matter will be handled sensitively while ensuring a fair investigative process.
