Residents on Thursday began an indefinite road blockade demanding the immediate repair of the badly damaged road connecting Kadamtala, Ranibari, and Tarkapur. The protesters accused the authorities of ignoring their repeated appeals and failing to address the deteriorating condition of the road.
Locals said the road has been in a deplorable state for a prolonged period, making daily travel difficult and posing serious inconvenience to commuters, students, patients, and residents. Despite submitting several complaints and requests to the administration, they alleged that no effective measures have been taken to restore the road.
The protesters also criticized political representatives for failing to fulfill their promises, claiming that assurances of repair have remained limited to words, with no visible progress on the ground.
Residents further pointed out that the alternative route previously used to bypass the damaged stretch has also become impassable and is currently blocked, severely affecting connectivity to New Bazar, Dharmanagar, and Lalchhara.
Under the banner of the BMS organization, local residents launched the indefinite road blockade at around 6:00 a.m. on Thursday to press their demands and draw the attention of the authorities.
The demonstrators asserted that the agitation would continue until the administration gives a clear and concrete commitment to undertake the repair and restoration of the road without further delay.
