A preparatory meeting for the 29th National Youth Day 2026, themed Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD), was held today at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Yuva Awas chaired by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy. 

The event is being organized with the support of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and the initiative of the State Youth Affairs and Sports Department.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Tinku Roy said that the celebration is part of the Central Government’s vision of building a Developed India by 2047. He informed that a digital quiz competition under the Viksit Bharat Challenge Track is already underway, with 1,727 youths having registered so far. Various district-level competitions in folk music, folk dance, painting, poetry, story writing, declamation, and innovation (science fair) are scheduled from September 1 to October 31, followed by state-level contests from November 10 to December 1.

Highlighting the larger national framework, Roy said the second edition of VBYLD was announced by Union Minister for Youth Affairs Mansukh Mandaviya on September 13 at Dhyan Chand Stadium, New Delhi. Around 3,000 young participants, including 20 international delegates from BIMSTEC nations, will take part in the grand finale in New Delhi from January 10–12, 2026.

In Tripura, state-wide National Youth Day celebrations will be held at Nazrul Kalakshetra. District-based rallies are planned for September 23 (except West Tripura), while a state-level NaMo Marathon will be organized on October 21. Post Durga Puja, sports equipment will be distributed under the MP and MLA Area Development Funds. On October 27, special district camps for differently-abled persons will also be held, where select individuals will receive awards and financial assistance.

Earlier, Secretary of the Youth Affairs and Sports Department Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty stressed on close coordination among departments for the success of the event. Director L. Darlong presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the schedule of activities.
