Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tributes to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya on his birth anniversary, recalling him as a guiding force in India’s journey toward a “Viksit Bharat.”

Upadhyaya (1916–1968), a thinker, economist, and leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, is remembered for his philosophy of Integral Humanism (Ekatma Manav Darshan), which emphasized development rooted in India’s cultural ethos, harmony between individual and society, and the principle of Antyodaya—upliftment of the last person.

Sharing a message on X, PM Modi said Upadhyaya’s nationalist ideas and philosophy remain relevant today. “His thoughts showed the path to prosperity for the nation.

In this Amritkaal of Independence, following his ideals will help us build a developed India,” the Prime Minister said.

Union ministers also remembered Upadhyaya on the occasion. Home Minister Amit Shah described him as the “proponent of Integral Humanism” who stressed cultural nationalism and holistic development. Health Minister J.P. Nadda called him a “great nationalist thinker” and joined the Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 cleanliness drive to mark the anniversary. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Upadhyaya’s life of service, dedication, and patriotism continues to inspire the nation.

Upadhyaya, who led the Jana Sangh until his death in 1968, remains an enduring influence in Indian political thought and public life.
