The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check unit has flagged a digitally manipulated video of President Droupadi Murmu that is being circulated by certain Pakistani propaganda accounts with false claims linking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Rafale fighter jet deal.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PIB Fact Check clarified that the video is AI-generated and doctored, stating:

“Pakistani propaganda accounts are circulating a digitally altered video of President Droupadi Murmu with false claims that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is using her as a prop to elevate Rafale PR.”

The fabricated clip features an artificial voice mimicking President Murmu, falsely alleging that she was being “blackmailed” by the Modi government into taking part in Rafale-related promotions.

The misleading video includes false statements such as:

“Modi Ji’s Hindutva government blackmailed me and ordered me to sit in Rafale… If anything happens to me, Modi Ji and his Hindutva politics will be responsible.”

PIB Fact Check categorically dismissed these claims, confirming that “The President of India has NOT made any such statement.”

The agency warned that the video was AI-generated and intended to mislead the public, urging users to verify and report such misinformation. It also shared a link to the original, unedited footage for public reference.

Citizens have been advised to report fake content through official channels — via WhatsApp at +91 8799711259 or email at factcheck@pib.gov.in.

This incident follows another recent case where PIB Fact Check flagged an AI-manipulated video of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, falsely promoting a so-called “investment programme” that promised returns of ₹60,000 in 24 hours and ₹10 lakh per month.

PIB clarified that neither the Finance Minister nor the Government of India has launched or endorsed any such scheme.

“Don’t fall for such get-rich-quick traps! Stay alert. Stay informed. Verify before you share,” PIB warned.

The agency also urged citizens to stay vigilant against AI-generated misinformation, advising them to look for tell-tale signs of manipulation — such as distorted lip sync, mismatched voices, inconsistent backgrounds, or fake logos — and to always verify links, ensuring that authentic government websites end with “.gov.in.”
