In a significant anti-drug operation, Tripura Police arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized a massive consignment of Yaba tablets worth an estimated Rs 7.5 crore during a routine vehicle checking drive near the Tripura–Mizoram border on Monday.
The operation was carried out by personnel from Damchera Police Station in North Tripura district. Acting on suspicion, police intercepted a vehicle and conducted a thorough search in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) K. Sisodia, and officials from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), ensuring all legal procedures were followed.
During the search, officers recovered approximately 1.5 lakh Yaba tablets concealed inside the vehicle. The accused, identified as Anup Nunia (23), a resident of Silchar in Assam, was taken into custody.
The seized narcotics were confiscated following due legal formalities. Police have launched a detailed investigation to trace the source of the contraband and identify other members of the drug trafficking network involved in the smuggling operation.
North Tripura District Police reiterated their commitment to intensifying action against drug trafficking and organised crime, emphasizing their resolve to ensure a safer and drug-free society through strict enforcement of the law.
