A major road accident was reported on Thursday afternoon at Bonbihar area along the Belonia–Jolaibari road after a goods-carrying tipper truck collided with a passenger Tata Magic vehicle. At least five passengers sustained injuries in the incident.

Sources said the accident occurred around 1 PM when tipper truck bearing registration number TR 08 E 1575 crashed head-on into Tata Magic vehicle TR 03 A 2613, leading to chaos at the spot.

On receiving the information, personnel from the Jolaibari Fire Service immediately reached the scene and rescued the injured passengers. They were first taken to Muhuripur Primary Health Centre for medical treatment.

Medical In-Charge of the health centre, Dr. Rakesh Chowdhury, informed that three injured persons were later shifted to Santirbazar District Hospital as their condition was stated to be serious. Two others were treated and released after primary care.

The accident caused temporary disruption of traffic movement in the area, though normalcy was restored after some time. Authorities are looking into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
