The Agartala Municipal Corporation has taken strict measures against the construction of a permanent house on illegally occupied land in Agartala.
The corporation's task force had earlier issued an order to halt the construction work. However, the builders ignored the directive, prompting municipal officials to intervene on Thursday and seize construction materials from the site.
According to sources from the municipal corporation, the house was being built without any permission on illegally occupied land. Upon learning about the construction, the task force issued an order to stop the work. Due to non-compliance, the authorities adopted a firm stance.
During the operation, officials removed bricks, sand, cement, and other construction materials from the site. The municipal corporation has stated that similar operations will continue in the future across the city to prevent illegal construction.
Meanwhile, the land occupier claimed that he has been occupying the land for the past 30–32 years. He added that the land has been in use for around 70 years, passed down from one person to another.
