Two suspected individuals detained from Tilabazar of Unakoti district are currently in the custody of Irani Police Station, where they are being interrogated in connection with alleged illegal infiltration and possession of forged documents.
According to police sources, an illegal Indian PAN card was recovered from the detainees. Initially, the suspects claimed that they were residents of Halair Par village under the Chandipur Assembly constituency in Kailashahar.
However, during questioning, they reportedly admitted that their actual home is in Sunamganj district of Bangladesh.
The detained youth has been identified as Roman Das, son of Balaram Das. The woman accompanying him was introduced as his mother, Mrs. Seful Das.
When officials visited Halair Par village and spoke with local residents, villagers stated that the individuals and their family had been living there for some time. Locals also claimed that they were known in the area as having come from Bangladesh.
Police have registered a case numbered 05/2026 at Irani Police Station under charges of illegal infiltration. The accused are expected to be produced before the Kailashahar court soon.
A senior police official indicated that more individuals may be involved in the incident. An electric auto-rickshaw and its driver are currently being questioned. Authorities are also investigating the possible illegal creation of Indian PAN cards.
The incident has sparked tension in the locality, raising fresh concerns over cross-border infiltration and the fabrication of fraudulent documents in border areas. Local residents have demanded a fair and comprehensive investigation into the matter.
