Acting on specific secret information, a joint team of security forces conducted a major anti-narcotics operation in the Bejimara–Kalapania forest area under Sonamura Police Station on today
During the raid and subsequent search of forest land, the team detected 16 plots of illegal ganja cultivation spread across approximately 25 acres. Around 75,000 mature ganja plants were found growing on the site. All the plants were destroyed on the spot following due procedure.
The estimated market value of the destroyed ganja plants is approximately Rs 6 crore, dealing a significant blow to illegal drug networks operating in the region.
The operation was carried out jointly by Tripura Police (Sonamura Police Station), 81 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), and 11th Battalion of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR).
Officials stated that such coordinated operations will continue in forest and border areas to curb illegal narcotics cultivation and trafficking. An investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the cultivation.
