Tension gripped the Malaynagar Saha Para area under Srinagar Police Station after a 45-year-old man was found hanging at his in-laws’ residence on Saturday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Manabendra Chakraborty (45), a resident of Jogendranagar Kumarpara. According to police sources, he had been staying at his in-laws’ house for the past few days.

Family members said that on Friday, his wife, Anjana Sarkar, had gone to the city for shopping. An argument reportedly broke out between the couple when she returned home late. On Saturday morning, family members discovered Chakraborty hanging inside the house and immediately informed the Srinagar Police Station.

Police personnel reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.

The deceased’s wife claimed that her husband frequently consumed alcohol, which often led to domestic disputes. Although the incident is being treated as a case of suspected suicide, police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of death.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the locality.
