Tripura Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Monday accused the BJP and its ally Tipra Motha Party of failing to address the basic problems confronting the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), while allegedly benefiting from the council in the name of implementing an accord.

Addressing a street-corner meeting organised by the Gana Mukti Parishad, the tribal wing of the Left Front, Chaudhury alleged that the BJP has remained in power in the state since 2018, initially with the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), which he said is now represented by Tipra Motha.

According to Chaudhury, despite the prolonged rule of the BJP-led government and its allies, people in the ADC areas continue to face shortages of basic amenities. He alleged that schools have been shut down and road and drinking-water infrastructure has deteriorated.

The LoP also raised concerns over employment opportunities for local youth, alleging that outsourcing has resulted in people from outside the state being brought in for various posts. He further claimed that the removal of the Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate (PRTC) requirement from certain recruitment processes was aimed at facilitating such appointments.

Chaudhury alleged that the ADC is also facing deficiencies in law and order and financial accountability, claiming that public funds are not being properly audited.

He further alleged that more than 250 appointments were made illegally and claimed that relatives of the ADC’s Chief Executive Member and Executive Members benefited from the recruitment process.

Calling for action against what he described as irregularities, Chaudhury demanded that the entire recruitment process be cancelled immediately.

He also criticised the alleged delay in holding village council elections and accused the BJP and Tipra Motha of failing to deliver on their promises to the people of the ADC areas.
