In a coordinated operation based on specific intelligence inputs, a joint team comprising Tripura Police, Assam Police, and central intelligence agencies arrested a suspected extremist operative in Tripura on Tuesday morning.

The accused, identified as Jagir Miah (33) son of Hanif Miah and a resident of Jaipur village under West Police Station in West District, was apprehended on December 30 officials confirmed.

Intelligence sources said that Jagir Miah was wanted in connection with Special Task Force Police Station Case No. 06/2025 registered on December 28, 2025. The case includes charges under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023—Sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 150, 152, and 113(5) as well as Sections 10, 13, 16, 38, 39, and 40 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967.

"Investigation has revealed that Jagir Miah is an active member of the offshoot organisation “Imam Mahamude Kafila,” which is an ideological extension of JMB (Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh). He was found to be associated through a WhatsApp", said Police.

The accused has been taken into police custody and is currently under interrogation. Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of his involvement and to identify other individuals connected to the network.
