In a coordinated operation aimed at curbing illegal cross-border activity, four individuals — including a Bangladeshi national — were apprehended by security forces at Agartala Railway Station yesterday late evening.
The operation was jointly conducted by the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and Intelligence personnel.
GRP Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das confirmed the identities of the detainees as Mehedi Hasan (33) from Bangladesh’s Faridpur district; Iqbal Hossain (21) and Riaz Hossain (19), both residents of Fitra Madhyapara in Tripura’s Gomati district; and Sumendra Pal (22) from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. "Initial questioning reveals that the Bangladeshi national had crossed the border illegally,” Das stated.
“All four were found wandering around the station premises, allegedly planning to board a train to Kolkata — potentially as part of an effort to penetrate further into the country.” The detainees are being interrogated in stages at the Agartala GRP Police Station, with investigators suspecting a possible link to a larger trafficking or infiltration network. “We’re pursuing several leads and anticipate further arrests,” added Das.
“The probe is still in its early stages, and more information will be disclosed as the investigation deepens.”
