Ganja plantation worth Rs 2.50 lakh destroyed by security agencies in Tripura

Acting on secret information, a joint team led by Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station, Tapas Das, conducted a large-scale raid from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at Bathadola GP and Bijoy Nagar ADC Village area under Tripura's Sepahijala District targeting illegal cannabis cultivation in forest land.

During the operation, the team detected and destroyed 11 ganja nursery plots containing approximately 2.75 lakh cannabis plants, uprooted on the spot. In a separate location, around 12,000 newly planted cannabis plants spread across eight acres were also destroyed.

In total, 2.87 lakh cannabis plants were eradicated, with an estimated market value of around Rs 2.5 lakh.

The joint operation involved personnel from Sonamura Police Station, the 81 Battalion BSF (Batadola BOP, Matinagar BOP, Kulubari BOP), Boxanagar Forest Division, Jatrapur Forest Division, 9th Battalion TSR, 11th Battalion TSR, and other sister agencies.

Authorities have intensified surveillance in the region to curb illegal cultivation and drug trafficking.
