A severe road accident occurred on Saturday night near Shantipur Gate under the Pecharthal police jurisdiction. A lorry, traveling along the Agartala National Highway, lost control and ploughed directly into a residential house, causing extensive damage and leaving four people critically injured.
According to local sources, the lorry was heading from Kumarghat towards Pecharthal when it suddenly went out of control near Shantipur Gate, resulting in the crash. Eyewitnesses claimed that both the driver and the assistant fled the scene immediately after the accident.
The four injured individuals were immediately taken to Pecharthal Primary Health Centre. After initial treatment, their deteriorating condition prompted doctors to refer them to Kailashnagar District Hospital for advanced medical care. The victims are reportedly laborers by profession.
This incident adds to a growing number of road accidents in Unakoti district in recent times, raising concern among local authorities and residents.
Calls for stricter traffic control and enhanced safety measures on the national highway are growing louder.
